Barracks restaurant Mainio
Isokari’s restaurant services have been arranged in the former canteen barracks of the Defense Forces, located in the direction of the island’s inland lake, a stone’s throw from the lighthouse. It is about 800 meters from the port to the restaurant, about a hundred meters from the lighthouse. Follow the red signs to find the restaurant.
The barracks restaurant Mainio is named after the huge Pori Mainio soup dams. The great pots are located on the kitchen side where you can visit them. The dams were used in the 1940s and 50s, when the building was a canteen for the Defense Forces, cf. more from the book Isonkarin linnake (2019, Johanna Pakola).
The food philosophy of the barracks restaurant is very simple: We cook tasty food and get enough of it. We prepare food on site in our kitchen from ingredients that our grandmothers would recognize, depending on our maritime location and the season.
Welcome to our Barracks Restaurant!
